Procedure

Step Image
Check with Daniel for space in the propagation house.

Moisten germination mix (see transplanting protocol), place inserts in flats and fill flats with soil.

Scrape excess soil off with soil scoop.
If hand seeding, carefully place one seed in the center of each cell.
Cover with a thin layer of fine vermiculite.  Fine vermiculite is available in large containers in the Turner cross house.

Place a tag with date of seeding, name of person responsible for project, and seed name in each flat.  Place flats in mist house.
Settings for the misting frequency should be set close to an on time of 8 sec and an interval of 8 min.  If no other plant material is on the bench and the settings are not correct, change them.  If there is other plant material on the bench check with Daniel before altering the settings.

After finishing with a particular cultivar or seed, pour all seed back into the package.  Store the seed as directed by person responsible for the project.
