| Attach aspirator to vacuum line and turn on. Unclip cage clothespins and pinch leaf off at the petiole. | |
In the hood, carefully remove the rubber bands. Lift the top piece off and count the number of thrips inside the cage and on the leaf. Collect thrips with the aspirator being careful not to scratch leaf tissue with aspirator tip. |
|
| Remove number tag from tip of leaf. Place leaf and tag on the scanning template. | ![]() |
| Center the template top over the damaged leaf area. Make sure there is no vermiculite or other debris on the leaf. | ![]() |
| Carefully turn template over and place on scanner bed. The template needs to be on the side of the color card that is nearest the lid hinge. The template sometimes sticks to the lid. If it does, it best that it does not move the color card in the process. Close scanner lid. | ![]() |

Open Corel PhotoPaint and use Control-Q to bring up scanner software. On the first leaf do an overview scan and adjust the selected area to slightly larger than the template and the color card. Software settings should be left on the default and the resolution set to 600 ppi.
