Capturing quality images through the microscope takes considerable practice and patience. A minimum of 30 min should be allowed, more if using the microscope camera for the first time.

| The microscope, light source, and camera are kept in the digital photography cabinet. Set up microscope and light shource. Remove red cap on microscope. | |
The area surrounding the lens on the camera is threaded. With the camera off, carefully attach the camera to the top of the microscope. |

Attach the power supply cable to the side of the camera. Photos may be taken using the batteries as the power supply, however constant use of the zoom when working with the microscope drains the batteries quickly. A cable for transferring photos directly to the computer is available and may also be attached to the side of the camera. Transfer of photos in this manner is painfully slow. It may be useful in applications where any movement of the camera during a series of photos is undesirable. Kodak software is used as an interface. More information on using this software can be found in the manual in the filing cabinet. |
|
| For the photos to be in focus, align the two dots on the adjustment mechanism where the camera attaches. | |
| Turn camera on and zoom in as far as possible. |
|
| Take photos as desired. Adjusting the focus, the light source, the background material, and/or the exact alignment of the red dots may be necessary for quality photos. Realize that what appears to your eyes as focused may not be the best focus for the camera. | |
| Transfer photos by turning camera off and removing storage card, being careful not to move the camera. Download photos to ThumbsPlus. |
