Bleach should never be mixed with detergents that contain ammonia, such as Palmolive. The mixture will produce toxic fumes. Gloves must be worn as bleach dissolves fatty acids in skin.
Depends on the amount of materials to be washed

| Mix a 5% bleach solution in a dish pan. Tap water may be used. Add enough detergent to form suds. If using Alconox detergent, water will need to be warm for the detergent to dissolve. |

Wash materials, making sure bleach solution contacts all surfaces. Bleach is added to the water to sanitize materials which will be used in the colony. |

| Rinse materials well with tap water. Rinse laboratory glassware with deionized water after the tap water rinse to remove any remaining contaminants. | |

Place materials on drying rack or under hood. The hood may be turned on to decrease drying time. Put materials away when dry. Drawers and cabinets are labeled. If you do not know where materials belong, ask. |
