Procedure

Step Image
Get desired number of Jiffy 7 pots from box.

Place the pots into a container with 1.5" of deionized water.  The side with a circle and hole in the center should be facing up.

Jiffy 7 pots fully expand after 20-30 min. soaking.
Place the expanded pots onto a tray that has drainage holes.
Be sure to take the cuttings early in the day while the plants are still turgid. Also, have all the needed supplies before starting the cuttings. T
Two to three inch meristem tip cuttings are needed for these cuttings.  Make the cutting just below a leaf node.
Remove the lower leaves so that about 1 inch of the stem can be placed into the pot.
In addition, remove most of the buds and flowers from the plant to keep the plant in a vegetative state.
Next, sprinkle growth hormone on the bottom of the stem.  Do not place the stem into the growth hormone. The plant may have a virus and sprinkling will decrease the likelyhood of transferring the disease to other plants.
Place the cutting into the pot.  Be sure to keep the cuttings correctly labeled.
When all the cuttings are through, or the tray is full, place the tray onto a bench in the mist room, 3E5 in the Turner Greenhouses.  Ask Daniel which bench the cuttings should be placed on.
