Image Cropping Protocol

Materials and Equipment Needed

  1. Images
  2. Corel PhotoPaint

Process

If a color card was used in the images, it must be excluded from the image analysis in some manner.  One method is to manually crop the card out of the photos.  It is possible in some cases to exclude the card within the IPLab software based on color or size separations.  Steps to crop the card out are presented here.

Time Required

Varies with number of photos to be color corrected

Procedure

Step Image
Open color corrected image in Corel PhotoPaint.  Select zoom to fit on the tool bar.  Select an area to be analyzed.

Go to Image-->Crop-->To mask.  Image will appear as at right.  The dotted line around the outside indicates that the mask is still active.  The mask must be removed before analysis by using Mask-->Remove.

Create a folder for the cropped images using Windows Explorer in the same location as the original files.  Go to File-->Export-->Export.  Locate the folder and save the images in TIF format.  Do not save over original images.
