Ebb and Flood Bench Cleaning Protocol

Materials and Equipment Needed

  1. Shop-vac
  2. > Extension cord
  3. Hose attachment with Green Shield in bottle
  4. Cleaning brush
  5. Small pump with tubing for draining tanks
  6. Dishwashing gloves

Safety Issues

Green Shield is not toxic to plants, although it is a sanitizing agent.  Wear gloves when working with the Green Shield.  Use caution when working with the extension cord near water.

Time Required

45 min to 1 hour per bench if draining tanks

Procedure

Vacuum plant debris off bench.  Ask greenhouse staff for the Green Shield.  Attach the bottle to the hose in the house you are working in.  The hose may need to be removed from a watering wand or a fertilizer injector.

Remove drainage tube from tank.

Spray Green Shield over the bench.  Allow to soak and use a brush to clean.

Rinse bench thoroughly. 

Place drainage tube back in tank.
If draining tanks, refer to the tank draining protocol sheet.
